SpyFly Review
Spyfly ranks slightly lower than some of our other background check and public record search services as far as our reviews go. However, it does provide sufficient and timely search results, which will be enough to satisfy many users who are looking for a background check service. It also has an excellent trial period for those looking at multiple options.
SpyFly puts an emphasis on compelling technology and intuitive features. They have crawlers which review countless records and databases to provide you with thoroughly detailed results. To test how effectively SpyFly reaches its claims, we targeted a person here with us. We used his name and place of residence to search and received nearly 20 results. The results came back to us quickly and without much of a pause. Once we had them, we examined the list to find the ones that fit our team member. It didn’t take much time for us to find and verify the individual we were looking for.
Types of Searches Available
While many background check sites now boast four or five different searches, SpyFly lags behind a bit in this regard. They do offer three different search types, including: background check, people check, and criminal check. Unfortunately, there is no way to do a reverse phone, address, or email search. That said, what SpyFly does offer, it seems to do right so you won’t be left frustrated if you try their service options
Number of Public Records
We found it difficult to determine how many records SpyFly has available for use in records, but it does seem to be at least an average amount. As such, you can expect that millions of public records are used when building your people, background, or criminal check. This is typically more than enough to provide you with whatever information is available about the person you are searching for. It may not stand up to what certain other background check sites offer, though.
Report Quality
This background check website's report quality is good with extensive information made available for each report. We appreciate that the reports are unlimited when you have a subscription. It’s also excellent that more than one subscription length is available. You can choose to do a one-month, three-month, or six-month subscription. There is additionally a week-trial that costs very little if you are looking at your options. There does not seem to be premium features, so all data is provided with a subscription. That’s a perk that many background services do not offer.
Ease of Use & Interface
SpyFly has a decent interface which makes using it easy. It is straightforward and utilizes a powerful searching engine. Overall the site design isn't groundbreaking but is usable. When you first reach the site, a large warning box pops up which can be a bit disconcerting, but the rest of the website is designed nicely. It doesn’t take a lot of work to find links you want or to carry out a search as the search box is built into the main page.
Data Quality
The data and information quality of the records were found to be reliable & credible. We performed various checks to verify the quality of information provided by SpyFly. There did not seem to be any problems with the data on the checks we sent through. Some were more detailed than others, but that stands to reason. Some people simply have more information available in public records than other people do. SpyFly does seem to update their information regularly, as well.
Site Speed
The site's overall usability speed was fast enough for our purposes, and our information requests had completed running in under three minutes each time. This is the time between typing in a search and hitting the search button and receiving a report on the screen. This is average or a bit below the higher ranked background check services that we list. It’s certainly nothing that will be problematic in most cases.
Search Results
As we mentioned before, there is only one tier of report available from SpyFly. Once you run a background check, the report will be pulled up with a number of tabs on the left. The report will include a summary, address history, possible relatives, possible associates, phone number and email, criminal records, financial problems, lifestyle data, career details, and miscellaneous data that does not fit elsewhere. A premium report can be accessed as well but will cost extra.
As an example, if you look someone up and click on the tab that says Criminal Records, it brings up numerous blocks of information. It will show any personal crimes, property crimes, victimless crimes, and white-collar crimes that are present in the databases used by SpyFly. You can also choose to monitor a search if you want to be alerted when and if it changes in the future.
Search Process
The process of searching is fairly typical when it comes to background search websites. You simply type in a name and state, then hit the ‘Spy Now’ button located to the right of the search bar. It will begin loading details and going through databases as it locates information that matches your search. Once that is complete, you’ll be dropped at the actual report where you can quickly thumb through the various blocks of information that are available for the individual you searched for.
Cost of Service
The price is relatively similar to what other websites ask for background search subscriptions. There is a very low-cost seven-day trial for those who want to test the service before signing up. In addition to that, there are subscriptions that last one, three, and six months at a time. At this time, it does not seem that it is possible to purchase a single report for a fee. This may come later, but as for now, it’s trial or subscription based. One thing to note is that the payment options can be confusing at times so make sure to read the information before choosing a subscription or trial.
Support Options
SpyFly doesn’t have a 24/7 customer service team, but they do offer support from 5 AM to 9 PM PST. You can reach them by calling their toll-free number or emailing them. They are open every day, so you don’t have to wait until a business day to get needed support and help. There is also a help center on the SpyFly website which answers many of the common questions that they are asked. It’s an excellent place to start, but more extensive support is available by phone or email.
What Makes SpyFly Different
One of the things that makes SpyFly different is the fact that they offer a week-long trial for a low price. The trial also provides complete information from both standard and premium offerings, so you can see all the information and features that are available. The length of the trial and the ability to use premium features is something that sets SpyFly apart from other similar background check services.
Another feature that SpyFly has going for them is that they have a sex offenders’ database. This isn’t uncommon, but it is nice to see. You can also have an alert sent to you if a registered sex offender pops up in a particular location. This gives you safety and security about the people around you. Of course, you can also look up the names of your neighbors to find out any public information that may exist about them. Alerts for changes to family members profiles is also a feature that is crucial.
The website is pretty easy to use, which is another positive going for SpyFly. It isn’t the most beautiful site in the world, but it does what it needs to do and makes it easy for you to get information. That’s probably more important than the aesthetics, in the end. The reports are also simple to read and understand, which is essential for anyone considering a subscription.
History
SpyFly was founded in 2012 with a mission of making it simple for individuals to find and learn about each other. The company is headquartered in San Diego, California but team members exist across the United States. SpyFly looks to provide the most accurate information available, as well as a robust customer support team. While younger as a company that other search services, SpyFly is undoubtedly a contender who deserves recognition for getting a lot of things right.
